Need a lawyer but not sure where to start? On Lawmanee you do not have to call firm after firm: you post your case, and lawyers who are interested contact you. Posting is free for people looking for a lawyer, with no hidden charges. This guide walks through each step, shows how to write a post that lawyers understand quickly, and lists what to watch for before you hire.
Before you post: prepare these 6 things

Lawyers decide from what you write. The clearer your post, the more relevant the replies and the easier it is to compare quotes. Answer these six questions first:
- What happened? Tell it in order, with dates or at least months.
- What do you want the lawyer to do? Advice, drafting or reviewing a contract, a notice letter, filing a petition, or representing you in court.
- Which documents do you have? Contracts, receipts, chats, photos, a court summons or a judgment.
- Any deadlines? A court date, or a legal time limit that is running out.
- What is your budget? Or would you rather lawyers quote first?
- Which province are you in, and which language do you want to use?
Step 1: Case details
- Title: up to 120 characters, in Thai, English or Chinese (at least one). Readers see the version in their own language, or the language you wrote if there is none.
- Case description: up to 2,000 characters. Give the facts and what you need in short paragraphs.
- Case category and province: both are required. Lawyers use them to filter for cases that match their practice and area.
- Attach documents (optional): PDF, JPG or PNG, up to 10 MB each, at most 5 files. Attachments are not shown on the job board: only you, the site's moderators and lawyers who have expressed interest can open them.
A good title says what kind of matter it is and what you need, in one line:
| Too vague | Clear at a glance |
|---|---|
| Help, urgent! | Need a lawyer to petition for an estate administrator, one plot of land, Chiang Mai |
| Question about my house | Contractor abandoned my home extension after 2 payments, want to terminate the contract |
| Problem with my Thai partner | Want an uncontested divorce from my Thai spouse and an agreement on our child |
Example description
My father died in March 2026 without a will. He left one plot of land in San Sai district, Chiang Mai, and a car. The heirs are my mother and three children, and all of us agree that the eldest child should be the estate administrator. We have the death certificate, the house registration and a copy of the title deed. We need a lawyer to file the petition and obtain the court order. Please quote your total fee and the expected timeline.
It covers what happened, the assets, the heirs, the documents and the work needed, without anyone's name or ID number. For background, read our guide to inheritance and estate administrators.
Keep personal data out of the post
The job board is public: anyone can read it. Keep the title and description to the facts that matter.
- Do not write your name or anyone else's; say the seller, the contractor or my spouse instead.
- Do not write ID or passport numbers, phone numbers, e-mail addresses or LINE IDs; the contact settings take care of that.
- Before attaching a file, black out ID or passport numbers and anything unrelated to the case.
- A moderator checks every post before it goes live, and the system alerts the moderator when it finds a phone number, e-mail address or ID number in the text.
Step 2: Budget & terms
| Budget type | What it means |
|---|---|
| Fixed | One amount, if you already have a rough idea of the price |
| Range | A minimum and a maximum |
| Negotiable | Interested lawyers send you a quote; you compare and choose |
- Need a lawyer by: as soon as possible, within 1 week, within 1 month, or no rush.
- Urgency: urgent, normal or flexible. Use urgent only when a hearing or deadline really is close.
- Lawyer must speak: Thai, English or Chinese; you can choose more than one. If you do not speak Thai, this is the most useful filter on the form.
- Contact visibility: choose "Only lawyers who express interest" (recommended) to show your phone and e-mail only to lawyers who respond, or "In-app chat only" to keep them hidden completely.
Not sure what budget to set? Read how lawyers' fees and court costs work first, or choose Negotiable and compare several quotes.
Step 3: Review & publish
The last page shows a preview of your card exactly as lawyers will see it on the board, and you can go back to any step before publishing. You do not need an account to start: when you publish, you sign in with your phone number or e-mail. The first time, you receive a one-time code (OTP) to confirm it and set a 6-digit PIN, and what you typed is kept. Only client accounts can post cases.
What happens after you post

- Moderation: usually within 1 hour. Follow the status on the My Jobs page.
- Lawyers express interest: they appear on the My Jobs page, you get an e-mail if your account has one, and you can talk to them in the Lawmanee chat.
- Compare lawyers: look at their profiles, experience, languages and verification badges. Tier 1 · Verified means the lawyer's ID card and lawyer's licence have been checked by a moderator; Tier 2 · Verified Pro adds an identity check with Lawmanee staff.
- Choose a lawyer: press "Choose this lawyer". That lawyer is notified by e-mail, the other interested lawyers are marked as not selected, and this cannot be undone.
- Close the posting: once you have a lawyer or no longer need one. Lawyers will no longer see it on the board, and you can reopen it later.
Questions to ask in the chat before hiring
- Have you handled matters like this before, and what do you see as the key issues?
- How do you charge, what does the fee cover, and what else will I pay, such as court fees or travel?
- What are the next steps, roughly how long will they take, and which documents do you need?
- Who will handle my matter day to day, and how will you keep me updated?
Before you hire
- Put the engagement in writing: the scope of work, the fee and the payment schedule, and get a receipt for every payment.
- Be careful with people who contact you through other channels claiming to have seen your post. If in doubt, keep talking in the Lawmanee chat and check their profile.
- Nobody can guarantee the outcome: it depends on the facts and the evidence, so a promise that you will certainly win is a warning sign.
- Do not wait until the last minute: many matters have legal time limits. For example, a complaint for a compoundable offence such as defamation must be filed within 3 months of learning of the offence and who committed it (Criminal Code, Section 96).
